‘Serene’

Of all the colours on the wheel, green is the one humans see most variety in— & of all the colours on the wheel, it’s my favourite to play with.

‘Serene’ came to life in late 2023.

I find it tricky to write about the pieces I paint & why— not because they don’t represent or mean anything, but because painting is feeling. It’s breathing with each stroke, & pausing to take it in between collecting more paint on the brush. It’s expressing emotion through motion. It’s a language in its own when words can’t be articulated. Each piece deliberately numbered without individual titles/names; better portraying this.

This series was finding peace in chaos. A messy blend of acrylic paint & water met the canvas first, as preparation. When dried, multiple layers of oil paint followed— concealing, building, accentuating.

‘Fragments’

Fragments of.. being. Fragments of body. Fragments of feeling.

A mini series of a minimal colour palette on canvas. There was a limited run of five prints of each piece. Each piece & print of this mini series has found its home.

Before reading: What do you see? What do you feel?

Portraying weight & resilience through shapes & colour. A strength unasked for. Broken figures, imperfect figures, still being.

‘Ethereal’

My first serious series of pieces. A journey of exploring & deep feeling— really tuning in. Painted in early 2023.

There were no intentions of a series— just plenty of exploring & play that happened to fit together. Meditation occurred watching the paint pushed by the brush, thinner, & linseed oil. One of the interesting parts of this series is that I only played with some basics (Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Cadmium Red Deep Hue, French Ultramarine, & limited Titanium White). No in-between colours, no black.

The pieces in this series had prints (limited to five each), & all original pieces have found their homes. ‘Ethereal’ was first displayed at the shop I was previously working for, & remaining pieces later found in my booth at Rotary’s Art In The Park in Bright’s Grove.

I perceive these as landscapes & floating islands… What do you see?
